10 Dance Career Tips From Professional Dancers

 by:Theferg

Dance careers can be difficult to jump-start, so why not listen to some advice from professional dancers?

This past weekend, we had some additions to our usual group of friends, professional dancers. After I got over my initial sense of awe, we began to talk about their dance careers. I’ve always been fascinated with how people rise to the top of their profession. Professional athletes, movie stars and bands, they all have a unique story but there are usually some core similarities. This article outlines the basic things you should do to start your career in dance to become a professional dancer. Now, you’ll need a little bit of luck, good timing and connections as well, but you could get all of that while getting a Big Mac at your local McDonalds. Natural talent is a good base, but it won’t take you to the top. You need to nurture that talent, develop it and present it to the right people. This article shows you the basics. Some are more obvious than others. Most of you just need some reassurance that you’re taking the right steps to reach your goal, while others have no idea where to start. I believe that not all people in the “know” have the level of talent they need, and not all people with talent are in the “know”. I want to change that, so let’s start!

1. People do not become professionals in anything by reading a few articles or practicing a few hours a week. They become students of their profession. Students go to school. This goes for professional dancers as well. Now, there are a select few that push themselves on their own and have developed a wonderful ability, but that is still not enough. Their talent is rough and unrefined. Regardless of how many years you’ve practiced in your basement, everyone needs some formal training. Nothing can replace a veteran dancer showing you right from wrong, critiquing you and encouraging you. Start by going to a dance studio. Obviously, the sooner you do this the better. You’ll rack up experience and the younger you are the more receptive you are to learning. A good rule of thumb is the bigger the dance studio the better the dance professionals. However, a good teacher has experience, but also a connection with their pupil. This relationship can be forged at smaller, local dance studios as well. Remember, this is just the beginning. There are many professionals that reminisce about a grade school teacher that influenced them the most. Of course, it was probably some Julliard professor that trained them the most, but the person who taught them passion and desire is usually someone they met earlier in their dance career.

2. Dance camps and other supplemental dance institutions are a great way to increase your exposure to various aspects of the dance industry. You will network, learn techniques and be exposed to different teachers and performances. Going outside your comfort zone is a great way to build independence, character and a sense of responsibility as a dancer.

3. When you graduate high school, you’ll be looking to go on to college. This decision should be well thought out. You’re going to trust them with your education that will play a significant role in life after college. As an aspiring, professional dancer, you will want to attend the most prestigious dance school you can find. Try to find an accredited dance school, but at the very least any dance school is better than none. Make sure you start planning before it’s time to apply, like well before. You should begin your research about dance schools while you’re still in high school. Find out what requirements they are looking for in a dancer. Do whatever you can to better your chances at being accepted.

Tips For Interview

 http://www.articlesbase.com

When called for an interview it is important to prepare yourself in advance. Your employer has considered your resume and found it interesting now they want to meet with you to see if you can fit in with the company. There are a number of simple tips for interview which can make it a little easier to get the job you are looking for.

1. First thing is to try to find as much information as possible about the company. The more you know about the company the better it is for you, search their website and any other info you can find on the internet about the company. Do not be impressed if the company is large size it is still run by people like you with may be more experience and qualifications. If you become too impress you will not be able to perform well during the interview.

2. Once done with the searching about the company think about the difficulat questions the interviewer might ask, such as why you want to work for the company, what are your career goals, what are your future plans, why should we hire you? You must practice these questions, you might be able to shed light on your qualifications, skills and work experiences but the above questions does give little problems to even the best prepared candidates. Practice with your family and friends so you would know a little bit more about your strengths and weaknesses.

3. When going for the interview consider your dress you need to dress appropriately for the interview. Formal dress is always better for the interview but try not to wear something too colorfull this might distract the attention of the interviewer. They want to see someone looking professional working for the company to enhanced company's image so choose your dress appropriately. Just consider if you walk into a company and you see two people one dressed like a cowboy and the other in a formal dress, who would you approach for info or help?

4. Try to arrive a little early for the interview, you might have to wait in que for your number but you must expect to be called as soon as you arrived. If there is a set time for the interview and you arrive little late it might not give a good impression to the Interviewer. It is always better to work out how you would get there and do not forget to consider the public transport lateness, rush hour traffic problems and car parking issues.  If the company is a little distance away from you it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the area.

5. Just remember when you go for the interview a firm handshake and a nice gentle smile with greetings will break the ice and give you a good start. While you will be answering questions you must look towards the interviewer and in their eyes with confidence and not towards some where else. Also it is important not to laugh or smile when the interviewer will ask questions with a serious tone you will have to try to adapt to their mood and emotions and keep your emotions to yourself.

6. Some questions might force you to lie about yourself but it might not be the best strategy, the employers or recruiters can guess when someone is not telling the truth. This could lead to panic and you will not be able to recover during interview. Even if there are certain areas and you feel you do not want them to find out, you must prepare yourself to explain or find reasons to explain to overcome this problem.

7. Do not rush to answer, listen carefully, think for a second and then communicate in the best possible way to give the first good impression about yourself. If the interviewer make a negative statement about something from your resume do not come to conclusion remain calm and try to explain but do not argue. They want to see how you behave during interview and your expressions are noted.

8. It is sometimes best to answer the questions asked and not to start a story or long explanation about something. Keep to the point but make sure you answer all the questions. It is not necessary sometimes to get 100% right but answering all question is required. If you follow the above tips for interview you will have a better chance to get the job you are applying for.

Cv Writing Tips

by:L. Puchercos

Employers typically ask to see a curriculum vitae, or CV, for scientific, faculty, clinical, or research jobs. The CV usually runs two pages, compared to the resume's one, and contains information that markets your specific skills and experiences. Specificity is key, especially considering that employers see hundreds of resumes every day. Make your CV stand out from the crowd by following these tips:

* Group experiences into defined categories
As with a resume, your CV should include various sections, including contact information, education, work experience, and skills.

The CV is an extended version of a resume because it contains additional information about your background; include other sections, as appropriate, such as: Publications, Research & Teaching Experience, Professional Associations & Licenses, Grants & Fellowships, Honors, and Awards. Each experience should include a date (month and year, at the minimum) and brief description.

An "Objective" section is rarely used anymore; this frees up space for you to provide the information an employer really wants to see -- what skills you have that make you the right person for the job.

* Order information according to what's most important
If you attended an Ivy-league school but don't have stellar work experience, list the Education section first. But, if your professional experiences took place at well-known, large companies, put your work experience higher on the page.

While the order of all the sections should be personalized based on your background, always include contact information -- including name, address, email, and phone -- on the top of every page. This makes it easier for the employer to find out how to contact you when it comes time to set up the interview.

* Be consistent in formatting and style
Before filling in the details of each section, determine the way you want your CV to look. Be consistent with your font -- and pick a standard font like Times New Roman or Arial -- and setup each section in the same way so that HR can easily find the information they are looking for without searching. For example, if you italicize your job title, be sure every job title is italicized. With any CV, consistency is key.

* Create bulleted lists with specific accomplishments
Each experience should include its own bulleted list that highlights your accomplishments and responsibilities. Again, be very specific. Anyone can say that they are hard-working, motivated individuals, but what employers really want is evidence of your hard work. If you implemented five new newsletters at your job, or oversaw millions of dollars in projects, say that.

Additionally, each bulleted point should start out with a verb, such as "Coordinated" or "Organized." Often, employers will scan the left side of the page looking for key, descriptive verbs that show different things you've accomplished.

Lastly, don't mistake specificity for lengthy descriptions. Each bulleted point should highlight your accomplishments in one sentence. Save some details for the interview.

* Tailor your CV to the job
With the enormous amount of CVs companies receive, some opt to use software that scans resumes first, searching for key words pertinent to the job. For every job you apply to, update the content to reflect certain key words that are in the job description. Don't lie about your experiences, but be careful about which words you choose.

* Once you think you're done, proofread your CV -- twice.
One spelling or grammatical mistake is all it takes to get your CV thrown into the 'No' pile. Review your CV multiple times, and do not rely on spell-check. Once you've also rechecked the CV for consistency, making sure that each section is setup the same way, it's time to submit your CV.
